Dr Peter Plumstead
Dr Peter Plumstead completed his B.Sc. Agric (Hons) degree from Pretoria University, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Nutrition and Poultry Science from North Carolina State University.
Dr Plumstead has a diverse range of experience, both as a research Scientist as well as in applied aspects of Poultry Nutrition and Management. He started his career as a commercial nutritionist with the Meadow Feeds Group, the largest feed producer in South Africa. From 2007 to 2014 he also spent 7 years working as Senior Scientist, Global Enzyme R&D for DuPont leading the enzyme development and application research of several commercially available enzymes. Peter moved back to South Africa in 2014, spending two years as Associate Professor at the University of Pretoria. He currently serves as Technical Director of Chemunique, adjunct Associate Professor at University of New England, and as a global nutrition consultant with a focus on the application of management and nutritional strategies that improve the efficiency of poultry production.
MAARTEN DE GUSSEM, DVM
Maarten De Gussem is native from Flanders, Belgium. He received his DVM from University of Ghent (2000), thesis was performed on Infectious Bursal Disease Virus at the University of Arkansas, USA.
After gaining experience as poultry field vet in a large poultry veterinarian group practice, DEGUDAP, in France, The Netherlands and Belgium Maarten joined Janssen, as Global Poultry Technical Manager in 2001, servicing all major poultry producers on all continents, with focus on coccidiosis, gut health, helminthosis, histomonosis and red mite. In 2006, he was asked to join Alpharma Animal Health as Technical Manager for EMEA, gained responsibility over Global Business Development, dealing mainly with (alternative and classic) growth promoters, gut health, coccidiosis, and therapeutic antimicrobials. In 2009, Maarten founded VETWORKS, servicing the poultry industry with a global team of specialists, providing support on poultry health topics all over the world, with focus on mycoplasmosis, general gut health and coccidiosis.
