On September 16, 2008, Genencor announced its collaborative research agreement with The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. This exciting project builds upon Genencor’s core competencies in industrial biotechnology and marks yet another milestone in our company’s history.
The two companies joined forces to develop BioIsoprene™ monomer – a renewable, cost-competitive alternative for petroleum-derived isoprene – and also developed an integrated production system. Danisco anticipates the collaboration will significantly grow new business in the biochemical sector. By providing a biobased alternative to a key chemical in synthetic rubber production, BioIsoprene™ monomer could revolutionize the industry.
Market opportunities for BioIsoprene™ monomer extend to other applications as well, such as adhesives and specialty elastomers.
In December 2009, Genencor and Goodyear showcased the world’s first concept demonstration tires made with BioIsoprene™ technology at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.
